We each contributed a little to the Thanksgiving table. We took time to say what we were thankful for. I am so thankful for God for His grace and mercy, for His love that I do not deserve. I thank God for His provision, for the last year I have seen Him work in mysterious ways! I thank God for the family He has blessed me with. They encouraged, supported and prayed for me, and I thank them!
We have to remember to take time out for Thanksgiving! Our society encourages us to forget it in many ways. This year we went from Halloween straight to Christmas. Society has us running from in my opinion a celebration of evil to a celebration of greed (ok, I will get off my soap box for a moment!) Christmas music being blasted from the intercoms, as if to whisper, "better hurry up and buy, for Christmas is almost here". Ummmm, it is only November!!! If I may ask this question... "where are our thankful hearts". Don't get me wrong I love Christmas, we celebrate the birth of our Deliverer from sin. But take time out to be thankful for the blessings God has blessed us with. From the air we breathe to the freedom that we have in America, there is so much to be thankful for.
I will close for now, may God continue to bless you and reveal Himself to you!

A Working Vacation....
My grandparents have recently moved to South Carolina and I am able to come down and visit them. Our Pastor was also asked to speak at the Bible School where we both attended and I asked if I could assist him with the PowerPoint Presentation that I did for the Youth Conference. I was delighted that he said yes. We have about 70 kids attending the sessions, which is encouraging. My prayer is that their hearts will be forever changed as they make the most important decision in their life.
As my grandparents are about an hour away I had to rent a vehicle to get back and forth... it is a nice ride.
I am hoping to go visit with some friends that I made while I lived here. I can't believe 10 years has passed since I graduated from E.I., time just flies. I was blessed to visit with Mrs. A. She looks good, especially for someone who turned 95 in April. She is still much in my thoughts and prayers. Her granddaughter (caregiver) is doing a great job. The 9 grandchildren also keep "Great-Grandma" busy too! I commend Amy as she has taken on such a challenge! Mrs. A & Pastor Mike
Well, tomorrow is another early morning, so I will end here. A tip: take a working vacation... it will be exciting and you will be helping others! You will want to go back home to get a break ;)
I was also privledged to see a dear friend and her new little 2 week old bundle of joy, and Reagan, a new big brother! It was so good to catch up and see what God is doing in each of our lives. I was able to hold "baby Alex" for 3 hrs as Aubri and I chatted away, it did my heart good!

Just Remember...
The next time you feel like GOD can't use you, just remember...
1. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts.
DON'T LEAVE IT ON THE DESK
There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr. Christensen, a studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States . Dr. Christensen taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution. Every student was required to take this course his freshman year, regardless of his or her major. Although Dr. Christensen tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously. This year, Dr. Christensen had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going onto seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor's class. One day, Dr. Christensen asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. "How many push-ups can you do?" Steve said, "I do about 200 every
night." "200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christensen said. "Do you think you could do 300?" Steve replied, "I don't know.... I've never done 300 at a time." "Do you think you could?" again asked Dr. Christensen. "Well, I can try," said Steve. "Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said the professor. Steve said, "Well... I think I can...yeah, I can do it." Dr. Christensen said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind." Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No, these weren't the normal kinds of donuts, they were the BIG, extra fancy kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the year, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christensen's class. Dr. Christensen went to the first girl in the first row and asked, "Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?" Cynthia said, "Yes." Dr. Christensen then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?" "Sure." Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten. Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christensen put a donut on Cynthia's desk. Dr. Christensen then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe, do you want a donut?" Joe said, "Yes." Dr. Christensen asked, "Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups! , Joe got a donut. And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten push-ups for every person before they got their donut. Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christensen came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship.
When the professor asked, "Scott do you want a donut?" Scott's reply was,"Well, can I do my own push-ups?" Dr. Christensen said, "No, Steve has to do them." Then Scott said, "Well, I don't want one then." Dr. Christensen shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have a donut he doesn't want?" With perfect
obedience Steve started to do ten push-ups. Scott said, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!"
Dr. Christensen said, "Look! this is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my donuts. Just leave it on the desk if you don't want it." And he put a donut on Scott's desk.
Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down . You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow. Dr. Christensen started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christensen asked Jenny, "Jenny, do you want a donut?" Sternly, Jenny said, "No." Then Dr. Christensen asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?" Steve did ten....Jenny got a donut. By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say "No" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each donut. There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved. Dr. Christensen asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten push-ups in a set because he couldn't bear to watch all of Steve's work for all of those uneaten donuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert could count the set and watch Steve closely. Dr. Christensen started down the fourth row. During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 students in the room. He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it. Dr. Christensen went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time. He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.> Steve asked Dr Christensen, "Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?" Dr. Christensen thought for a moment, "Well, they're your push-ups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that you want." And Dr. Christensen went on. A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, "NO! Don't come in! Stay out!" Jason didn't know what was going on. Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come." Professor Christensen said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?" Steve said, "Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut." Dr. Christensen said, "Okay, Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out of the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?" Jason, new to the room, hardly knew
what was going on. "Yes," he said, "give me a donut." "Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups very slowly and with great effort. Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down. Dr. Christensen finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. By this time sweat was profusely dropping off of his face, there was no sound except his heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room. The very last two students in the room were two young women, both
cheerleaders, and very popular. Dr. Christensen went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, "Linda, do you want a donut?" ;Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you." Professor Christensen quietly asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn't want?" Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda. Then Dr Christensen turned to the last girl, Susan. "Susan, do you want a donut?" Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry. "Dr. Christensen, why can't I help him?" Dr. Christensen, with tears of his own, said, "No, Steve has to do it alone. I have given him this task, and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve here is
the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work. Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do
push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes." "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?" As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor. Dr. Christensen turned to the room and said. "And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, 'Into Thy hands I commend My spirit.' With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, He yielded up His life. And like some of those in this room, many
of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten." Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile. "Well done, good and faithful servant," said the professor, adding "Not all sermons are preached in words." Turning to his class, the professor said, "My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spared not only His Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid." "Wouldn't you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the desk?" Share this with someone. It's bound to touch their heart and demonstrate Salvation in a very special way.

Face To Face
Mrs. Dianne always encouraged you to “Look Unto Jesus”, no matter the circumstances. “Embrace your circumstances; it takes more energy to push away than to embrace it”, she would state. In trying to take her advice and execute this, I have learned that in the embracing you will experience His strength, His grace and your relationship with Jesus Christ will be intensified.
Another piece of advice she would give was to “rejoice, always” emphasizing “ALWAYS”, again no matter what the conditions may be.
Her smile was contagious. She was always smiling as she radiated Jesus to others. She had a gentle strength. Mrs. Dianne was someone that would take the time to talk to you, putting down whatever she was doing and speak the truth in love. She had the gift of listening and giving Godly advice. In fighting the fight God put before her, she fought in His strength, allowing Christ to flow through her.
Mrs. Dianne was a lady who showed hospitality to all. She would open her home to anyone that needed a place to rest their head or just to invite them in for a cool drink and a “Berger Cookie”.
I truly miss her, but know that one day I will see her smile again! I cherish the example of the Christ-filled life she set before me, as I look unto Jesus.
So, I encourage you, to all of you, reading this… “Look unto Jesus”!

My Sister...
Isn't she cute!!!
On this day 25 years ago, God granted our family a blessing! My sister Heather was born. The details of her birth are foggy, but I remember being able to go visit her and Mom in the hospital for the first time! I also remember her crying A LOT! But I wanted to take this time to tell the world that I am so proud of her and the young woman that she has grown up to be. I can't even put into words how proud I am! She works hard, giving of herself for others. Yes, she can sometimes get on your nerves but what are sisters for! Happy Birthday Heather! I love you! Keep up the good work! Remember to keep your focus on Jesus Christ no matter what!

Happy New Year
Merry Christmas
What joy it is to once again sit down and put to paper the things that have transpired over the last year. This annual letter may not be for you to catch up on what has been happening to me but good for me to sit down, take a moment and reflect on the challenges and joys of the year, taking the opportunity to publicly thank God for His love, grace and faithfulness. The saying is that there is a season for everything. This year for me was a season of change.
As you well know I was living with and assisting in the care of Mrs. A., a dear friend. Her family decided it was best that she move to South Carolina with her granddaughter. I had the blessing of associating with Mrs. A for about 7 years. I think of her often. I miss hanging out with her! We had such good times! I am still working at Brightview Assisted Living. I can’t believe I will be celebrating 5 years in January. I love working the 2300-0800 shift. Working midnights has allowed me to participate in other activities during the day. I have enjoyed working with Pastor Mike and the church. Preparing PowerPoint Presentation for our church services and doing special presentations throughout the year has proved to be challenging. The challenging part is to out do what I have just learned. I guess the sky is the limit! This is my second year serving in our AWANA ministry at church. What a joy it is to see these children so excited about hearing, learning and memorizing God’s word. They are so enthusiastic about God that it challenges me to have the faith of a child. The 5-7 year olds that I teach, teach ME so much. These children are our future; therefore, we need to train them in the way they should go! I have also enjoyed working with the Silent Deaf Choir at church. Though we do not have any Deaf in our congregation at this time, but we are all blessed to “sing” with Sign Language. We never know what God has for us. We thank God for Cathy who has patiently taught us!
In April, I was welcomed back into my parent’s house. WHAT an adjustment it has been after living “on my own” for the past 7 years! I am truly thankful for them accepting me back (especially for mom’s sacrifice of giving up her Dining Room). I have had to adjust to the hustle and bustle of being with the family again! There is never a dull or quiet moment! I am very blessed. Dad’s job keeps us on our toes and on our knees, it seems every few months we are told that they will be relocating to Virginia, but within a week or two we hear the move has been cancelled (I think it is the prayers of the church ladies that keep them cancelling the move… this has happened like 3 times!) Mom is doing well, but I will ask you keep her in your prayers as the medication that she is taking is beginning to fight the Red Blood Cells (RBC - the good cells) she received injections of a medication every other week to keep the RBC strong. Rebekah, what can I say about her… she is unbelievable, she works, goes to school and then works the weekend at Kohl’s to pay for school. I am so proud of her and her perseverance. She has taught me so much! Heather, she enjoys working at the hospital, we love hearing her stories, it seems there is NEVER a dull moment over there! She is also going to school to obtain her Nursing Degree. At the moment she is taking Anatomy & Physiology, she is always telling us how things work. Ruthanne has blessed us with her singing talent. Every time she sings it brings tears to my eyes. I am so blessed to be in this family.
May 18th at 0752 was a scary point in my life. I rear ended the car in front of me and it in turn went into on-coming traffic and hit another car. Due to certain circumstances, at that moment I felt that my life had turned upside down. This accident sent me into a downward tail-spin. I praise God for his love, grace, comforting peace, and the prayers of His saints. I want to especially thank God for the support of my family and the Women’s Prayer group and dear friends as they encouraged me and gave Godly advice. It was the support and prayer of these people that lifted me out of what I call the lowest point of my life. It took me about 3 months to come out of a state of “depression”. God revealed Himself in a deeper way to me, teaching me that I can come to Him in ANY circumstance, that He is faithful ALL the time even when I am lost and searching! God is good ALL the time!
In October, I met with several new friends who I had met on a Christian website. We all gathered together in Pennsylvania and had a wonderful time. I am learning to step out of my comfort zone! I look forward to fellowshipping with them again. Hey, I invite you; if you want to get together… let me know! I am learning that we have some great things to do around here!
Trials can be blessings in disguise. After returning from PA, I came down with a severe case of strep throat. Strep throat, a blessing? Well, you wouldn’t think so, and I didn’t at the time. After 2 rounds of strong antibiotics I was feeling better, but the doctor had reminded me that I had not seen her for over a year. She did a blood work up and my White Blood cell (WBC) count was elevated (normal high is 10, mine was 18). My WBC count has rested at 14.2 and the doctor is concerned about the increase especially with Mom’s history of Leukemia. I have just made an appointment with my Mom’s oncologist. The doctor has been such a blessing to our family. At this point even though the doctor’s concerned, she did state it could be nothing. We are resting in the fact that God is in control. Please pray that no matter what happens God will be glorified and others will be drawn to Him.
I want to take this moment to thank the ones that risk their lives day in and day out. To those who are in law enforcement and those who are defending our freedom across the world are often forgotten, taken for granted and criticized, but they have a special place in my heart. Ever since I was young I have had the desire to pray for them. No words can express my thankfulness. We take for granted the gift of freedom, in our world and in our neighborhoods. Please pray for these ones as they serve us.
I end with these thoughts… Ask certain people what Christmas is all about and they respond “Christmas is about presents, family getting together, lights, a warm, fuzzy feeling, a duty of getting gifts for people who have everything, commercialism, and materialism.” I am not saying these things are wrong, I am just saying they are not the real meaning of Christmas. My thoughts go to an annual tradition, of watching Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Before Charlie Brown finds the real meaning of Christmas he is depressed, stressed out and hopeless. Does this sound familiar? Do you feel like yelling with Charlie Brown “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?” Linus steps up and reminds us the true meaning of Christmas:
“…the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you; you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”
What is the true meaning of Christmas? Christ! When someone offers you a gift it is up to you to accept it. Christ is our indescribable Gift from God. We have the choice to accept this Gift of eternal life and the joy and hope that comes with it. God has given us the Gift of eternal life through Christ, without this we are lost forever without Him. What amazing love! Have you accepted this Gift? He is yours for the taking.
My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you. I thank God for you.
May He reveal Himself to you throughout the year.
By God’s Grace & For His Glory,
Gretchen
Keep Christ in CHRISTmas!
